Tutorials - Embedded Objects

Most web page editors use the <object><embed> tags on the web page to insert a Flash object such as a MapTron interactive map. The <object><embed> tags do work, however, for best cross-browser compatibility we recommend using the code supplied with the MapTron product package.
The diagram below describes the code replacement typical of embedding a map on a web page. Examine the source code of the web page to make sure the <object><embed> tags are not used. See the online manual for detailed information on embedding the map on a web page; each product has its own manual.
The diagram below also displays the typical server files that are required for installation. The file named map_embed.js contains the necessary JavaScript code to embed map(s) on web page(s). The reference to the external map_embed.js file must reside between the <head></head> tags. Do no copy the code from the JavaScript file to the web page, it will not work.
Note that each MapTron product contains all required files supporting the method described here. Each product package contains its own files and required codes. Careful not to mix files from different product packages if using more than one product on your website.
Why the changes?
Changes to Microsoft Internet Explorer (Explorer 6 & up) affect how the browser loads and activates embedded objects or applets on web pages. The changes were made to the MSIE browser as a result of a patent dispute between Microsoft and Eolas. The new browsers show a message and requires an extra click on any embedded object (Java, Flash, QuickTime, Windows Media, etc) on a web page. Website owners and developers can make a simple change to their web page and add the extra file that will load embedded objects and activate without the extra click or message.

We hope that this information will help you better understand how to make the edits your web page(s). Feel free to contact us with any questions.
